Melbourne musician, DJ and producer Ben Silver has been a force to be reckoned with in his home city since the late noughties, though it’s only in the last couple of years that his productions have started appearing on wax.
Here he makes a return to Oliver Dollar’s Industry Standard imprint following last year’s digital-only ‘F So Good’. Silver sets his stall out with opener ‘Inside’, a relaxed-but-chunky slab of hazy deep house hypnotism rich in metronomic drum machine beats, weighty sub-bass, glassy-eyed female vocal samples, creepy chords and suspenseful sonic motifs. Flipside ‘Outside’ is – somewhat ironically given its title – and more warehouse-ready jacker marked out by looped spoken word snippets and foreboding stabs.
